Pendants vs. recessed downlights — which for your meeting room?

Pendant luminaires positioned over the table provide directional light that creates a defined "meeting island" and ensures faces are well-lit for video conferencing. They work best in dedicated boardrooms with fixed table positions. Recessed downlights and surface-mounted ceiling fixtures cover the whole room evenly and let you reconfigure the layout without moving the lighting. Premium meeting rooms often combine both — pendants for the table area, recessed for the perimeter and presentation walls.

Glare control and colour rendering

Conference lighting is judged by what people don't notice. Glare from poorly shielded fixtures shows up as eye fatigue and as reflections on monitors during presentations. Choose luminaires designed for office use with anti-glare optics, and high colour rendering so faces and presentation materials look natural on camera. What colour temperature is right for meeting rooms?+

4000 K (neutral white) is the most common office choice and what VYSN typically recommends for conference room fixtures. High-end boardrooms sometimes use 3000 K (warm-neutral) for a less clinical feel, but anything below 3000 K reads as "evening lighting" and tends to reduce alertness during long meetings.

Should conference lighting be dimmable?+

Yes — projector and large-screen presentations need the room dimmed so the screen stays readable. VYSN office-grade downlights and panels support DALI dimming as standard and trailing-edge dimming on request.

How do I size the lighting for my specific room?+
